Perheille

in english

(Lapsi 6v)

For families

All types of families, including grandparents within those families, are invited to join in the Time Travel activities carried out in day-care facilities or open early childhood education. The families are asked to share brief childhood memories relating to a specific theme and to provide materials, such as photographs, textiles or objects, for loan or to serve as the foundation for creative activities carried out within the children’s group. The content provided by the families and the children’s own ideas enter into dialogue with one another and, through the activities, everyone learns something new about the daily lives and cultures of the different generations. Within our diverse and changing world, these activities serve to strengthen the children’s awareness of history, and to nurture their understanding of their own roots and identity. The families are also invited to participate in the daily activities of the children’s group and group events, as a means of becoming acquainted with one another.

‘In the evenings, my parents tell me about things they did when they were little. My mom said that she did this one thing, made perfume from real flowers. My mom and I also did it together. It didn’t really smell like anything, since the flowers didn’t have a scent. Mom tells us stuff when she is putting us to bed at night. Dad has also told us stuff, but I can’t remember them now.’ (Child, 6 yrs)
